Congratulations Val & Andy! (part 2 : the wedding)

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Did you miss Part 1 of Val & Andy’s wedding?  If so, luckily I have a short video that will catch you up.  Here we are at The Xchange on Saturday morning, showing off the setup we’d already completed the previous day:

So here we are on Saturday, all ready for a wedding!  The ribbon curtain looks significantly better after adding an impromptu section of pipe and drape behind it.  Plus the bride and groom brought a perfectly-colored rug from their home to stand on during the ceremony:

And we’re off!  Guests arrived to the 9th floor via elevator:

I admit I was a little busy getting people down the aisle so this is during the ceremony after things got started.  Don’t you love those ribbons between the columns?  I think the bentwood chairs were just perfect for the retro theme too:

With the ceremony and reception happening in all the same space, we had to set up as much as we could to be ready for a room flip during cocktail hour.  The center section will become the dance floor and these tables will move around slightly to allow room for the buffet:

Isn’t the sweetheart table just darling?!  Val had this perfect vintage tablecloth that went right over the paisley linens she purchased.  Rosanna & her crew from Enjoy Your Party were instrumental in getting things set up properly:

OK, cute detail alert!  Val purchased these dainty tea towels to use instead of napkins.  The little red stripe down the side paired perfectly with the red ribbon and I swooned when I saw them.  We wrapped the silverware up in them so people didn’t have to juggle extra pieces from the buffet.  Adorable, right?!

Photographer Kelly Guenther was on hand, snapping away at all the little moments and details.  I promise I’ll share them as soon as I have them.  I got this one while she set up on of the very few formal portraits.  Here’s one of my only good shots of Val and Andy….aren’t the cute together?

Do you remember all the piles of bags and boxes of STUFF that the bride bought?  Well, here’s how it turned out!  Vintage tablecloths are covered with punched-out-airplane confetti, a ceramic pitcher holds flowers, upside down vintage crates created some interest along the wall, and paper airplanes, toy airplanes, and apples provided some additional prop decor:

Here’s how the buffet looked once we got the food from Neuman’s Caterers set out:

Just down the row from the luncheon buffet, there was a dessert spread!  Keavy at Kumquat Cupcakery, a Brooklyn Flea favorite, brought this fabulous stand an a bazillion adorable mini cupcakes in the wedding colors:

Along with the food, Neuman’s Catering also brought a slew of other cute mini desserts!  Check out these adorable parfaits in tiny glasses:

It wouldn’t be an Italian wedding without homemade cookies.  Check out the goodies Val’s family brought:

Perhaps the funnest dessert, though, was the groom’s cake.  Val’s friend came up with this two-tiered beauty, complete with a fishing theme and little shark fins circling the raft.  How adorable is this cake?!  I promise I’ll find out who made this beauty and share it with you soon:

We had Lapis Luna, a jazz/swing/bossa nova band, play for the luncheon reception.  They were just the right style for the wedding and gave the whole event a lot of personality.  Shawn was a pleasure to work with (thanks for rolling with all quirks!) and the rest of the guys were wonderful too.  The guitarist, John, played for the ceremony and did an exquisite job:

Val & Andy doing their first dance:

I took my iPhone out for a little walk and thought you’d like to see the reception from my point of view.  Here’s the video version of the rest of the afternoon:

BUT WAIT!  The party’s not over!  These lovebirds had an AFTERPARTY in the same space.  That’s right, we flipped the room again!  Check back soon to see the pictures — you’re not going to believe how beautiful the second party was!
